ISTC RELOCATES TO NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF KR TO EXPAND SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION
September 22, 2025 — Strengthening research funding opportunities for Kyrgyz scientists, the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted the signing of a Protocol between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) regarding the relocation of the Center's representative office to the main building of the National Academy of Sciences of the KR. To commemorate the office relocation to NAS KR, a round table was held with the participation of the new ISTC Executive Director Ms. Karina Angelieva, ISTC Financial Director Ms. Sonya Vekstein, and directors of institutes and researchers of NAS KR, led by NAS KR President Mr. Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov.
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) is an intergovernmental organization comprising 10 governments that have signed the ISTC Continuation Agreement: Armenia, European Union, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Norway, South Korea, Tajikistan, and the United States. More detailed information is available at www.istc.int.
The Kyrgyz Republic joined the Agreement establishing the ISTC in 1995. The Agreement on the continuation of ISTC activities was ratified by Law of the KR No. 198 dated December 14, 2016.
The ISTC is a leading source of international science funding in the Kyrgyz Republic. During years of active ISTC operations in the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz scientists have prepared more than 300 project proposals, of which more than 110 have received funding totaling approximately $30 million USD.
The relocation of the representative office to the NAS KR building is aimed at improving coordination between the Center and scientific organizations and higher educational institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic. The new location will provide scientists with more expedient access to consultations on project preparation, accelerate the exchange of information about grant opportunities, and simplify application procedures.
In the coming months, the ISTC plans to conduct a series of training seminars for young scientists on preparing competitive project proposals and organize meetings with potential international partners.
